Map state (caves, ore, custom markers, and exotic status) is saved to a database, allowing you to share your map with your friends. All other settings are stored locally in your browser (such as independent filters for each map and coloring styles). This means your friends can view the map and apply their own filters, but they cannot modify the map itself. If you make changes, they will need to reload the page to see the updates.
If you want to back up your map state or switch to another prospect, you can export the map state to a file and import it later. The exported file contains only your map state, not your filters.
